Most Memorable Experiences

One of the most memorable experiences Was my oxacan animal bowl.  This is because I put a lot of time and effort into it and it was a fun experience.. Also many people were giving me ideas on how I could make it and it really showed that most of the help I needed was right around me.  The other most memorable experience was the Value Self Portrait.  This is because it was challenging to really focus in on all the different values on my face and how to show them in the self portrait.  Because you weren't supposed to have to values right next to each other and trying to arange them but still show the right values was  challenging.  That is why those are the two most memorable experience in this class.

Thinking about art

This class has changed to way I look at art in many ways.  One way is that I have seen how color schemes are used so when I look at a piece of of art I can see what they used for a scheme.  Also the different techniques that they use for drawing.  It also makes me look at with more respect because I see what they do to create art and I now see how much time and effort goes into what they do.  Also I did not realize how many different ways there were to create the same drawing or painting or really anything thats art.  This is how This class has changed the way I look at art.

Project that im most proud of

The project that I am most proud of is my Oxacan Animal Bowl.  I am most proud of this project because i put a lot of effort into it and I think that it came out very well.  It was not painted the way I wanted it at first but then I got a few suggestions and when I put them all together I really began to see it coming together.  Also I made sure that I considered all the ideas that people were giving me and I thought about which ones would work the best when put together and I used that to help me create my Bowl.  Also When I was making it more and more Ideas were coming to me so it seemed interesting to me on how I was doing things which made things kind of fun while making my bowl but it also took some hard work to create. That is why I am most proud of this Bowl.

Personal Space Box

The purpose of this project was to look closely at the work of Winslow Homer so that I could better understand who he is as an artist as well as learn how to describe, interpret, and evaluate works of art. In response to looking at Homer’s work, I created a relief sculpture that is inspired by his work and concepts.

Artists Studied: Winslow Homer

The place that is shown here is old town Florida light house. This is on the west coast of Florida that looks into the Gulf Of Mexico. Old Town is not far into Florida and the light house has a design of a black and white spiral with a red top.

My connection to this place is that my grandparents do not live far from old town so when we went to visit them this is one of the places we went with them. This happened when I was 7 years old so it is a good memory of what I did down there because I have not been back for many years now.

For tangible objects i used the Florida State flag to represent where I was. Then I used a manatee because we had gone to see those at sea world.I did this because it made the to memories connect to one big one that was in the box.

Still Life Drawing

Purpose:

  • To create a still-life drawing that demonstrates understanding of angles & ellipses in perspective, along with using a variety of mark-making techniques to describe form;
  • To understand value by creating a good range of values between black & white to help make the objects appear 3D;
  • To demonstrate quality craftsmanship and good composition skills in a drawing.

Artists Studied
: Henry Moore, John Whalley, Giorgio Morandi & Vincent van Gogh

 I tended to use Henry Moores and Vincent Van Gogh techniques the most.  Which was crosshatch curved lines and controlled scribbles.  Yes the crosshatching made it easy to make spaces dark and easy to use with to edges of the shapes.  The curved lines and controlled scribbles were useful when i wanted some of the middle value to show which was the brown paper.

One thing that changed was my ability to make the shapes the realistic size.  Before i had a hard time with this i was always making the things in back to tall and the shapes in front to short.  Also with defining my edges without really making an outline that showed.  Also with making the different values stick out by using different techniques.
